The Rabbits in the Basement

This basement has a dark history. The corner of this gloomy dungeon houses 17 hand-made drawings of rabbits. They were drawn with a common pen - nothing special. Lined up in rows of 5, seemingly incomplete. Where did these rabbits come from? This house has been empty for decades.

Sally was 8 years old when she drew her first rabbit. She was scared and alone. Only that one corner was lit up. The rest of the basement shrouded in darkness. Taking out a pen from her school blouse, she scribbled a face on the wall. She almost forced a smile.

The door flew open with a THUD the next morning. A large figure barrelled over towards Sally. She knew what to expect. His large lips touched hers and her blouse removed. She knew this couldn't be right but was taught to respect her elders.

Every night Sally drew another rabbit, and every day that figure rubbed himself against Sally's smooth and naked body. As she drew, she clung onto hope while that figure rubbed against her innocence.

A boy arrived. Sally was commanded to stroke that boy with her tongue or else she would be punished. Sally let the other boy draw the 17th rabbit, but the figure caught them. While being yanked to the ground, Sally heard a scream rip through the darkness. The figure's lantern crashed to the ground, lighting up the pen wedged deep into his eye. Grabbing a piece of wood, Sally joined the boy as they stabbed and stabbed until the figure lay silent.

This is where her innocence was lost and her feelings of fear were born, following her through adulthood. The line of rabbits remained incomplete forever. When an adult rapes a child they kill that child's soul, trust, faith, hope and innocence.
